A habit that you can do in your extra time!

2020-09-09

In this busy world, we are occupied by our work most of the time. We spare some free time from our work just to hangout on Instagram, Messenger or Facebook. It’s okay to use social media sometime. But we tend to get lost into it. We spend a lot of time in social media which may affect our brain as well as our productivity.

So, one of the best habits that you can adopt when you have some leisure time is actually reading books. There are many sources that you can get valuable information from like movies, podcasts and even audio books.

Earlier, people used to read books by spending most of their times. They used to sit around for 8 - 10 hours reading books. Later on, people developed movies which were 2-3 hours long and this led to decrement in their brain’s thinking capacity. Similarly, people started making shorter videos and articles/blogs which further reduced the screen time as well as the attention span.

What we can see here is, capacity of human’s attention span was rapidly decreasing from reading books to watching videos. It is very much important to retain our attention span and books help us in retaining them by allowing us to study deeply into a topic and engaging our brain in a single topic for a long time.

We try to imagine the characters and scenarios while reading a book. It helps us to engage our creative mind. It’s the law of nature that “if you don’t use something for a long time then, you will probably lose it.”

People have their own tastes in books as well. Some of you may love fiction while others may love business or self-help. Whatever book you read, as long as you are reading, it is actually better than doing nothing.

When we’re not into reading books, it’s tough and boring in the beginning. So, you know your interests first and search for related book recommendations in google. Then buy the book and create a habit of reading at least 10-15 pages a day. Once you get the jest of it, you’re hooked by your thought processes and creativity.

Do not start by reading complex books.

Some of the productive and financial books, that I highly recommend would include - “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, “I, Steve”, “Elon Musk”, “The Ride of a Lifetime”, “Alibaba” and “Can’t hurt me”.
