Tattoos are an interesting topic, as they’ve been around for a long time. Tattoos have been a fascination since the beginning of time. Tattoos were first only used as a symbol of a community or tribe. But now, tattoos are more common than ever. And maybe you want one too. Since you’re here you must want to know more about tattoos and understand how you get one and what to expect. For most beginners getting a tattoo can be a scary topic since it's going to be there for the rest of your life.

But before we get into the Do’s and Don’ts of Tattoos. You must understand that getting a tattoo is a painful process and it will hurt. Especially on areas like your neck, ribs, ankle, wrist, etc. Also, to not regret getting a tattoo for the rest of your life waiting for a certain amount of time and while you’re waiting visualize the tattoo on your body, and if you still want it then go and get one. So, here are the Do’s and Don’ts for tattoos: -

Do’s

  • Make sure the place you’re getting a tattoo is sanitary, safe, and hygienic because the last thing you’ll want is an infection and a bad tattoo
  • Check the artist portfolio.
  • Take your time and don’t rush to get a tattoo.
  • Take breaks, as getting a tattoo is a painful process, and depending on the artist and the tattoo it can take a long time.
  • Realize that your tattoo needs to be meaningful unique and special to you.
  • Stay Hydrated as the pain and stress on your body can dehydrate and exhaust you.
  • Shower right before getting the tattoo because some of the time you won’t be able to shower because of the fresh ink that still needs to settle.
  • If you need to then wash the tattoo with mild water and soap but only after 24hrs of getting the tattoo.

Don’ts

  • Don’t compromise for the price, because most of the time cheap tattoo parlors will ruin your tattoo and even infect you with serious diseases.
  • Don’t get a tattoo while intoxicated.
  • Don’t drink to ease the pain because the alcohol in your body will cause you to bleed in excess. Hence, causing visibility issues for the artist.
  • Don’t apply a thick film of moisturizer because instead of healing faster the moisturizer will take out the ink and even cause it to fade.
  • Don’t forget to wear sunscreen because the sunlight will cause your tattoo to fade faster.

These were the basic Do’s and Don’ts for tattoos. But always remember to be considerate while getting a tattoo because getting one in a visible area of your body will affect your career. Since tattoos are getting such attention and hype from many people are starting to gradually get tatted. I made this list in hopes of helping out a lot of first-timers because I had no one to teach me about tattoos and I don’t want that to happen to you too.
